Origins

Development of the Somerby golf-and-residential community began in 2002 through Golden Tee Development LLC, a partnership involving Ames Construction and Wensmann Homes. John Fought and Tom Lehman were selected to design the golf course.

Did You Know?
Somerby hosted a PGA Tour-sanctioned Nationwide Tour event only two years after the course was completed.

Design Philosophy

The architects created multiple strategic shot options rather than designing solely for low-handicap players, allowing the course to remain playable from a broad range of tees while retaining championship length from the back.

Development

Construction was completed in 2004. Ames Construction later acquired its partner's interest in the development venture.

Recognition

Golf Digest placed Somerby among America's ten leading new private courses shortly after it opened. It has remained part of the magazine's Minnesota rankings and sits 17th in the 2025-26 Best in State list.

Today

Somerby remains a private golf and residential club with an 18-hole course, substantial clubhouse, dining and year-round simulator facilities.
