South Grove Golf Course is a historic 18-hole municipal course approximately two miles from downtown Indianapolis. Built in 1902, it was designed by local architect Harry Schopp, who also designed Pleasant Run and Sarah Shank Golf Course. The current published longest scorecard measures 6,265 yards and plays to par 70.
Although the property is comparatively flat, the routing uses gently rolling ground and elevated plateaus for tees and greens, while mature trees create relatively tight playing corridors. The name South Grove derives from the grove of trees along the southern side of the property. South Grove was built in 1902 and designed by Indianapolis-area architect Harry Schopp. The club explains that its name came from the grove of trees lining the southern side of the property.
Schopp worked with a relatively flat site but used its gently rolling sections and elevated plateaus for tee and green locations. Mature trees later became a defining element of the playing corridors.
The course has long been associated with Indianapolis amateur competition, most notably through the annual South Grove Spring Four-Ball.
