The course is a 9-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 5,620m (6,146 yards). The course originally opened in 1987. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, Putting green, Chipping green, Pro shop, Bar, Halfway house, Restaurant, Golf carts, and 1 more.
A group of Stilbaai golfers founded the club in 1986. With support from the municipality they obtained land on which to create a golf course, and members themselves took an active role in both its design and construction.
Rather than being the work of a named professional architect, the course evolved from the collective work of its founding members. The coastal site and prevailing weather became intrinsic parts of how the course plays.
The course opened in a basic form in 1987 and was improved progressively. The original clubhouse was a modest municipal building shared with other sporting groups and was eventually replaced by a purpose-built clubhouse overlooking the course.
Stilbaai remains a nine-hole, par-72 facility with cynodon greens, practice facilities and visitor access. The club's published history says future expansion to 18 holes remains an ambition.
