Origins

Stone Creek Golf Club opened in 2008 as the golf centerpiece of Del Webb's Stone Creek development, a gated community for residents 55 and older built southwest of Ocala, Florida, off Interstate 75. Del Webb, the active-adult community brand now part of PulteGroup, hired Central Florida architect Terry Doss to lay out 18 holes across 187 acres of the area's rolling countryside. The site sits in Marion County, a region better known nationally for horse farms than golf, and the course was built specifically to serve as a signature amenity for the surrounding residential development rather than as a standalone destination course.

Doss had designed The Links at Spruce Creek in nearby Summerfield roughly a decade earlier, giving him an established track record in the area before Stone Creek.

Did You Know?
Underground tunnels beneath the community's internal roads let golfers and carts pass between holes without crossing traffic, a design detail tied to the course's position inside a residential development rather than on an open site.

Design Philosophy

The course plays to a par of 72 across six tee sets ranging from 5,197 yards at the forward markers to 7,211 yards at the back, with most holes offering six or seven teeing options. That range reflects the community it serves, where golfers span from low-handicap regulars to retirees taking up the game later in life. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, and the Champions Bermuda greens, more than four acres in total, are large and undulating, defended by bunkering set tight against the putting surfaces.

Today

Stone Creek is managed by Hampton Golf and operates on a public/semi-private model: community members get priority tee times and unlimited play, while outside golfers can book online up to seven days ahead. The clubhouse includes the Stone Creek Grille, a golf shop, and a practice area with a driving range and separate putting and chipping greens. The club also hosts corporate outings, charity tournaments, and weddings alongside its daily public play.
