The Strathtyrum Course is an 18-hole, par-69 course within the St Andrews Links complex in Fife. Designed by Donald Steel and opened on 1 July 1993, it was conceived as a more approachable alternative to the longer and more demanding courses at the Home of Golf. Its routing uses broad playing corridors, comparatively few bunkers and large greens, placing more emphasis on positioning and putting than on length.
The course measures about 5,620 yards from its longest published setup and is part of the publicly accessible St Andrews Links system rather than a private members-only club. Although shorter than the Old, New and Jubilee courses, it remains exposed to the wind that influences golf across the Links. Strathtyrum shares the wider St Andrews Links infrastructure, including access to the Golf Academy and practice facilities, retail and dining within the Links complex.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 69, 5,620 yards, course rating 66.2 and slope rating 107. Designed by Donald Steel, the course originally opened in 1993. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Golf Academy, Golf Lessons, Putting Green, Chipping Area, Pro Shop, Club Hire, Trolley Hire, and 2 more.
Strathtyrum was commissioned as a purpose-built shorter course within St Andrews Links, broadening the range of full 18-hole golf available alongside the much older Old, New, Jubilee and Eden courses. Donald Steel designed the layout, which opened on 1 July 1993.
Steel created wider playing corridors and used comparatively restrained bunkering, making Strathtyrum less demanding from tee to green than the longer St Andrews courses. Large putting surfaces and exposure to the same coastal wind preserve strategic interest despite the reduced overall length.
Since opening in 1993, Strathtyrum has remained integrated into the St Andrews Links system rather than operating as an independent private club. It shares the broader Links infrastructure, including academy, practice, retail and dining facilities.
The course remains an 18-hole, par-69 public-access layout operated by St Andrews Links Trust and serves as one of the shorter full-length options within the Home of Golf.
