Surbiton Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course in Chessington, Surrey, close to the A3 southwest of London. The club was founded in 1895 and its course was originally laid out by Tom Dunn, extended from nine to eighteen holes in 1897. James Braid redesigned the 6th and 7th holes in 1924 after the club lost land to the construction of the Kingston bypass.
The course plays to a par of 70 from the White tees (6,075 yards, course rating 69.4, slope 124), with Yellow (5,744 yards), Red (5,354 yards) and Blue (5,126 yards) tees also in use; women's ratings and slope are recorded from the Yellow, Red and Blue tees. The 8th and 18th holes share a single large green in front of the clubhouse, and the par-3 4th and long par-4 9th, which plays past a wooded former Second World War bomb crater, are among the more discussed holes on the card.

It is a private members' club. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Restaurant, Bar, Terrace, Golf Academy, Function Room, Putting Green, Practice Ground, and 2 more.
Surbiton Golf Club owes its existence to A. H. Lisner, the lessee of Waffrons Farm, who wanted a course of his own as other clubs were forming nearby, including Claygate Common Golf Club. Lisner placed an advertisement in the Surrey Comet inviting interested parties to a meeting at the Southampton Hotel in Surbiton on 29 March 1895; Bulmer Howell was elected Captain and around seventy members signed up on the spot.
The land, part of Waffrons Farm, belonged to the Countess of Lovelace and had already carried a rough course for the farm's residents. Once the club leased the ground from the Countess in 1895, it hired Tom Dunn, then professional at Tooting Bec Golf Club, to lay out a course. Dunn, born in Musselburgh and a veteran of four Open Championships, was among the most active course designers of his era, credited with laying out more than 130 courses in southern England, including Broadstone and Littlestone. The original Surbiton course had nine holes; it was extended to eighteen in 1897, reaching a length of 4,541 yards.
The course changed again in 1924, when construction of the Kingston bypass took the land beyond what is now the 5th green. James Braid, the five-time Open Champion and professional at Walton Heath, was brought in to design replacement holes, producing the current 6th and 7th. The result is a compact, tree-lined routing typical of a course built on farmland rather than open heath or downland: several holes share ground, most visibly the 8th and 18th, which play to a single large double green in front of the clubhouse.
Individual holes carry their own reputations among members: the par-3 4th is guarded by a ditch and cross-bunkering, the 9th plays past a wooded hollow left by a Second World War bomb crater, and the 5th is regarded by many members as offering the best view on the course.
Two Club Professionals account for most of Surbiton's history: Jim Coleman held the post from 1914 to 1962, and Paul Milton from 1978 to 2019. Dai Rees, later a nine-time Ryder Cup player and five-time captain, served as Coleman's assistant from 1935 to 1938 before moving on to Hindhead and then South Herts, where he remained until his death in 1983; the club's function room is named after him. In 1923, Coleman played in an exhibition match at Surbiton alongside Ted Ray, George Duncan and Arthur Havers.
Surbiton remains a members' club that also takes visitor and society bookings outside competition days. A short-game practice facility, built with support from an England Golf grant, supplements a golf academy staffed by four PGA professionals, and the clubhouse terrace looks out over the shared 8th/18th green and the 1st tee.
