Thaxted Park Golf Club is an 18-hole par-70 course at 1 Golf Course Drive in Woodcroft, South Australia, about 20 kilometres south of central Adelaide. The club officially opened in 1964 and was largely built by its foundation members. Its original layout remained comparatively unchanged for decades before a major front-nine redevelopment began in 2015 under golf architects Neil Crafter and Paul Mogford of Golf Strategies.
Their masterplan included changes to fairway width, bunkering, greens and tees. The course occupies rolling ground with tree-lined fairways, creeks and dams, with irrigated Santa Ana couch fairways and bentgrass greens. Thaxted Park accepts public play through the week, on Sundays and public holidays, and offers restricted Saturday visitor access.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. The course originally opened in 1964. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro shop, Golf academy, Practice facilities, Restaurant, Clubhouse, Golf cart hire, Pull buggy hire.
Thaxted Park was created by its foundation members and officially opened in 1964. The course was established on rolling land at Woodcroft south of Adelaide, with the routing making use of the property's changing elevation, creeks and dams.
For most of its early life the course reflected the work of its foundation members rather than a formally credited original architect. The routing uses holes travelling in different compass directions across rolling terrain, reducing repetition and making wind direction variable throughout a round.
Only minor alterations were made for many decades. In 2015 the club began a substantial front-nine redevelopment under Neil Crafter and Paul Mogford. Their broader masterplan included widened fairways, new fairway bunkers, relocated or remodelled greens and changes to tees.
The redevelopment explains why older public scorecards no longer align cleanly with the club's current par-70 description.
The club states that it has won South Australia's Simpson Cup four times and has produced several professional golfers.
Thaxted Park now operates an 18-hole par-70 course with public green-fee access outside restricted competition periods, supported by a pro shop, academy, restaurant and hire facilities.
