The South Course is the older of the two 18-hole layouts at The Club at Sonterra, a private club at 901 West Sonterra Boulevard in north San Antonio, Texas. Press Maxwell designed it, and it was built in 1954, more than thirty years before the club's North Course. The club describes it as a course that appeals to the traditional golfer, routed among acres of large oak trees with heavily tree-lined Bermuda fairways and Tif-Eagle Super Dwarf Bermuda greens.
It plays to a par of 71, with a front nine of 36 and a back nine of 35. From the Black tees it measures 6,721 yards, with a course rating of 72.8 and slope of 126, and the shortest tees play 5,400 yards. It finishes with a 516-yard par-five 17th followed by a 199-yard par-three 18th.
