The National Azerbaijan Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course near Quba in northern Azerbaijan. Designed by Jon Hunt of International Golf Design, the championship layout measures 7,011 yards from its back tees and occupies about 75 hectares of rolling terrain near the Caucasus Mountains. The course uses natural elevation changes, undulating fairways, deep bunkering and several water features rather than relying on a flat resort-style routing.
It opened to play in 2013 and was developed as the headquarters of the Azerbaijan Golf Federation, making it the country's first golf venue. Its international profile increased quickly: in 2014 it staged the Azerbaijan Challenge Open on the European Challenge Tour, the first professional golf tournament held in Azerbaijan. The closing holes run beside a lake, while the varied elevation across the property is a recurring feature of Jon Hunt's routing.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,410m (7,011 yards). Designed by Jon Hunt, the course originally opened in 2013. On-site facilities include driving range, golf academy, practice facilities.
The project was developed near Quba as the headquarters of the Azerbaijan Golf Federation and as the country's first purpose-built golf venue. Jon Hunt of International Golf Design was commissioned for the course. Construction was reported complete by late 2012, with the course publicly opening in September 2013.
Hunt worked with the site's natural elevation changes rather than flattening the property. The routing uses rolling fairways, deep bunkers and water, with the final two holes playing alongside a lake. The championship routing extends to 7,011 yards.
The course quickly moved from a new national golf project to an international tournament venue. Less than a year after its public opening it was selected for a European Challenge Tour event.
The Azerbaijan Challenge Open brought a European professional tour to Azerbaijan for the first time in 2014. The event was won by Germany's Moritz Lampert.
The course remains the landmark associated with the introduction of modern championship golf to Azerbaijan, although current public-access and operating details are not sufficiently clear from authoritative current sources to classify its access policy.
