About Thorpeness Hotel & Golf Club

Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel is a coastal heathland course in Suffolk, laid out by James Braid in 1922 on low-lying heathland near the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Braid routed the course through heather, gorse, pine and silver birch on firm, quick-draining soil, letting the natural lie of the land dictate the fairways rather than imposing an artificial design — the course remains playable 365 days a year as a result. The layout was later refreshed in 2015 by Donald Steel's firm, working alongside Tom MacKenzie, Martin Ebert and Ken Moodie.

The course plays to a par of 70 over 6,062 yards from the Yellow tees (course rating 70.1, slope 130), winding through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on England's Suffolk coast. It's widely regarded as one of the finest coastal heathland courses in Britain, and one of the best in Suffolk.

The course is an 18-hole heathland golf course. It plays to par 70, 6,062 yards, course rating 70.1 and slope rating 130. Designed by James Braid, the course originally opened in 1922. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Junior Membership, Lodge, Suite, Restaurant, Bar, Terrace, Golf Lessons.
