The Stadium Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta is Pete Dye's 18-hole, par-72 tournament layout, extending to 7,300 yards from the Black tees. PGA WEST's current structured tee table rates that configuration at 76.0 with a 148 slope, although separate official descriptive text still cites 76.1 and 150, indicating a version difference in published ratings. Dye deliberately incorporated spectator mounding into the terrain, which gave the Stadium Course its name.
The closing stretch contains its best-known feature, the island-green par-3 17th called 'Alcatraz,' followed by the water-lined 18th. PGA WEST completed its largest restoration of the Stadium Course ahead of the 2025 American Express.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,675m (7,300 yards), course rating 76 and slope rating 148. The course was designed by Pete Dye. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Practice Green, Golf Shop, Restaurant, Bar.
Pete Dye sculpted spectator seating into the terrain, creating the stadium effect that gave the course its name. The finishing holes deliberately intensify the challenge, particularly the island-green 17th and water-lined 18th.
The course underwent its most extensive restoration ahead of the 2025 American Express. Work expanded greens toward their original dimensions, restored greenside bunkering toward Dye's design and replaced outdated putting-surface turf.
The Stadium Course has appeared in national course rankings and is one of PGA WEST's principal tournament venues.
The restored Stadium Course remains publicly playable through PGA WEST's resort operation and continues to host The American Express.
