The land that became Twin Hills had been farmed by the Hill family since the mid-1800s as Moncony Farms, known for Holstein dairy cattle and cherry and peach orchards. In the 1960s, part of the property operated as a registered game farm raising pheasants. Golf course architect Pete Craig, who hunted on the land, told twin brothers Warren and Russel Hill that their property had the makings of a golf course if they ever gave up farming.
In March 1969 the orchards were cleared to build the course, and Twin Hills opened to the public on July 20, 1970.
Craig, a self-trained architect who designed several other public and private courses around Rochester, routed the layout over the farm's rolling ground, working a creek and existing elevation changes into play rather than reshaping the land wholesale. The stretch from the 12th to the 15th holes, locally nicknamed "Death Valley," is regarded as the course's most demanding sequence, and the par-3 14th, played over water, is the course's signature hole.
Twin Hills remains a public, walkable 18-hole course of 6,460 yards from the back tees, playing to a par of 71. It is now operated by Kris Oaks alongside sister properties Arrowhead Golf Course and Timber Ridge Golf Club under the same ownership group.
