Uphall Golf Club in West Lothian dates to 1895, when a course was established on land known as the Burn Parks, leased from the Houston Estate for £30 a year. The club's own history says the identity of the original course designer cannot be established. Early greens followed natural contours, the course initially had no bunkers, and livestock shared the land.
After difficult early years, the course was formally reopened in 1905. Significant development followed in the 1950s when additional land west of Houston House became available. Uphall today operates an 18-hole, par-69 course with visitor booking, a pro shop and membership programme.
