Origins

William J. Shaw organised Wack Wack in 1930. The club's own history records a membership campaign to finance the purchase of the Mandaluyong property and clubhouse.

Shaw then hired American golf professional Jim Black to direct course construction.

Did You Know?
The original membership campaign sought 400 members contributing PHP1,000 each to raise the PHP400,000 needed for the land and clubhouse.

Design Philosophy

Black used the property's natural hazards to create the original championship course, which developed into today's East Course. Historical accounts describe a demanding long course in which accuracy remained important despite its length.

Development

Construction of the first 18 holes began in April 1931. After that course was completed, Shaw purchased adjoining land and another 18 holes were constructed, creating the West Course. The two courses subsequently developed different roles, with the East serving as the principal championship layout and the West as the more everyday member-and-guest course.

Recognition

Wack Wack became one of the central venues in Philippine championship golf, hosting the Philippine Open and the 1977 World Cup.

Today

The private club continues to operate two separate par-72 courses in Mandaluyong, with guests permitted when accompanied by members.
