Westgate and Birchington Golf Club is an 18-hole coastal course on Canterbury Road between Westgate-on-Sea and Birchington in Kent. The club's official history records that a six-hole course opened on 20 May 1893 on land formerly belonging to Westgate Farm. It had expanded to nine holes by 1908 and to 18 holes by 1919.
The present club describes the course as a compact 4,877-yard layout influenced by its seaside setting, with small greens and wind contributing to the challenge. A published scorecard shows a par-64 White configuration measuring 4,412 yards and a par-67 Red configuration measuring 4,275 yards. Visitors are welcomed and the club publishes seasonal green-fee rates through its official website and BRS booking system.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. The course originally opened in 1893. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Bar, Catering, Clubhouse Hire.
The land occupied by the club once formed part of Westgate Farm. It had been sold for building, but a slowdown in development during the 1890s left it unused. Coutts Bank, which owned the land, leased it to the Westgate-on-Sea Golf Association rather than allowing it to become overgrown.
A newly laid-out six-hole course formally opened on Saturday 20 May 1893.
The course gradually expanded beyond its original footprint and crossed to the other side of the railway line. By 1908 it contained nine holes. A limited company took control in 1913 and remodelled the course, and by the time the property was auctioned in 1919 it had reached 18 holes.
The clubhouse opened in 1924.
The club remains on Canterbury Road between Westgate-on-Sea and Birchington. Its modern course is compact by contemporary standards and the club continues to welcome visiting golfers.
