Westman Islands Golf Club, Golfklúbbur Vestmannaeyja, operates an 18-hole course on Heimaey in Vestmannaeyjar. The course occupies two distinct pieces of terrain around Herjólfsdalur and Hamarinn. The club describes the opening nine as lying within the valley, where hills strongly shape the holes, while the second nine runs beside Hamarinn and is generally regarded as the more difficult half.
The official course guide documents all 18 holes individually and gives them Icelandic names, including Blátindur, Fell, Hásteinn, Langa, Moldi, Herjólfsbær, Fjósaklettur, Ormskot, Hellar, Olnbogi, Hæna, Borgir, Ægisdyr, Hamar, Höfn, Mormónapollur and Örn. The club is an important sporting organisation in Vestmannaeyjar and reports that more than ten percent of the island population are registered club members.
