Golf Course Architect
Richard Brett Thomson, operating as Brett Thomson of RBT Design, is a New Zealand golf course architect and master planner active since the mid‑1990s. After training in science and landscape architecture and further study at Harvard, he worked for Boffa Miskell (1995–1999) and then as Design Manager for Darby Partners (1999–2009), contributing to significant projects such as Clearwater Resort, The Hills, and Jacks Point.
In 2009 he founded RBT Design and has since led work on Te Arai Links, Windross Farm Golf Course (opened 2016), and Tīeke Golf Estate near Hamilton. His designs are characterized by minimalist, links‑style aesthetics, careful drainage and routing on challenging sites, and integration with landscape and development economics.
