Golf Course Architect
David Gill (1919–1991) was an American golf course architect based in the Midwest. He earned a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Illinois, held a civil engineering license, and served in World War II before launching his career.
He began with Robert Bruce Harris in Chicago and founded his own firm around 1950, overcoming a battle with polio to continue his work. He became a Regular member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1972 and remained active until his passing in 1991.
He designed courses such as Cherokee Country Club (Madison, WI), Ives Grove GC, North Shore CC in Mequon, and the River Club of Mequon, and mentored architects including Lindsay Ervin, his son Garrett Gill, and Steve Halberg.
