The Village Links of Glen Ellyn is a municipally owned 27-hole public golf facility in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Its original David Gill-designed course opened on July 16, 1967 as a 6,835-yard, par-72 layout built in conjunction with a stormwater detention system. Gill added a third nine in 1975, and the present configuration ultimately became a separate 18-hole championship course plus a nine-hole course.
Garrett Gill renovated the 18-hole layout in 2003, rebuilding greens and producing the current 7,208-yard, par-72 championship course. The 18-hole Black tees are rated 74.8/138, while the separate nine-hole Blue course measures 3,279 yards at par 36 and 35.7/129 for men. The Village Links is owned and operated by the Village of Glen Ellyn and has also been recognised for environmental management, including becoming the first public golf course certified through Audubon International's wildlife-sanctuary programme.
The course is a 27-hole golf course. Designed by David Gill, the course originally opened in 1967. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Practice Facilities, Golf Lessons, Golf Shop, Restaurant, Bar, Banquet Facilities, Golf Carts.
In the early 1960s the Village of Glen Ellyn planned a combined public golf course and stormwater-detention facility on 170 acres. The village hired architect David Gill, and the original course opened on July 16, 1967.
Gill's original layout was unusually ambitious for a public course of its era, with large bentgrass greens, multiple bentgrass tee sets, irrigated fairways, extensive bunkering and water incorporated into the stormwater system.
Gill designed the Link-Up Nine, opened July 15, 1975. A 1977 reconfiguration created today's basic 18-hole/9-hole arrangement. Garrett Gill led a major 2003 renovation of the championship course, rebuilding greens and producing its present 7,208-yard configuration.
Village Links became an early national example of environmentally managed public golf through its participation in Audubon International's sanctuary programme.
The Village of Glen Ellyn continues to own and operate the property as a 27-hole public facility with golf, practice, dining, outings and community programmes.
