Golf Course Architect
Dick Nugent (1931–2018) was an American golf course architect and developer educated in landscape architecture at the University of Illinois (1958). He co-founded Killian & Nugent Inc.
in 1964, later established Dick Nugent Associates in 1983, and designed or renovated over 90 courses across multiple states, including Kemper Lakes (host of the 1989 PGA Championship) and the 1999 Atkins (Stone Creek) Golf Club at University of Illinois alongside his son Tim. His work blended design variety with technical precision, earning him presidency of the ASGCA (1981–82), Fellowship (2003), and induction into the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame (1999).
Upon retirement, he passed his firm to his son, Tim Nugent, who continues the legacy as an ASGCA member since 2001.
