Jerry Matthews was a Michigan‑based golf course architect who followed in his father W. Bruce Matthews’s footsteps, co‑founding W.

Bruce Matthews & Son in 1959 before leading Matthews & Associates and later Jerry Matthews Natural Course Design. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he designed over 100 new courses and remodeled many more, with a strong commitment to integrating natural landscapes and environmental stewardship.

He served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1993–94 and taught golf course design at Michigan State University’s turfgrass program.
