Golf Course Architect
Mel Flanagan is an Irish golf professional turned course architect, best known for designing the 18‑hole parkland layout at Hollywood Lakes Golf Club in Ballyboughal, Co. Dublin, which opened around 1991–1992.
He was commissioned by John Kelly—the noted Irish Wolfhound breeder—to build the course on his lands during Ireland’s 1990s golfing boom and returned about a decade later to enhance the design with strategic bunkering and extensive tree planting, reinforcing its structure and character. In addition to Hollywood Lakes, he is linked to other Irish courses such as Rathcore, Blarney, and Dunmurry Springs.
Flanagan operates as a golf course designer and director based in Longford under MF Irish Golf Design.
