Golf Course Architect
Mike DeVries is an American golf course architect known for his minimalist, site-responsive approach, personally shaping greens and bunkers and working closely through construction. Rising from formative experiences at Crystal Downs in Michigan, he apprenticed with Tom Doak and worked with Tom Fazio, earned a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from University of Michigan, and built celebrated courses in Michigan including Kingsley Club, Greywalls, The Mines, and Pilgrim’s Run.
Internationally, he gained wide acclaim for co‑designing Cape Wickham Links in Tasmania—spending months on site and integrating routing with the rugged coastline—that opened in 2015 and achieved top‑25 world rankings. He later formed the global design firm Clayton, DeVries & Pont and continues to explore dramatic links terrain in Australia and elsewhere.
