Golf Course Architect

Philip A. Wogan (1918–2010) was a New England golf course architect who served as primary designer on more than 40 course layouts across the region.

Wogan & Sons, alongside that role for decades, joining the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1969 and chairing its Environmental Impact Committee from 1971. In 1985 he left Essex County Club to devote himself full-time to golf course architecture, and was elevated to ASGCA Fellow in 1989.

He was particularly noted for player-friendly, daily-fee public course designs, including Halifax Country Club, Pembroke Country Club, Point Sebago Club, Maplegate Country Club, and John H. Cain Golf Club, in addition to the back nine at Martindale Country Club and the full 18-hole layouts at Black Swan Country Club and Country Club of Billerica.
