Pembroke Country Club was developed in the early 1970s on Massachusetts' South Shore and opened in 1973. The design was entrusted to Philip A. Wogan, part of a prominent New England golf-architecture family.
The resulting 18-hole course was built as a full championship-length layout rather than a short local course, with the present Blue tees extending to 6,677 yards. The club's own historical summary continues to identify Wogan as the original architect.
The club describes Wogan's routing as one that requires golfers to use almost every club in the bag. Its length is distributed unevenly rather than simply relying on long holes throughout: the layout contains several substantial par fours, while the par threes range from 148 to 219 yards from the Blue tees. Five par fours exceed 420 yards, creating much of the championship-tee difficulty reflected in the 73.3 course rating and 132 slope.
The course has undergone substantial maintenance and playability work in more recent years under golf-course architect and superintendent Patrick Sullivan. Pembroke's official site credits Sullivan with directing clearing that opened portions of the property and improved playability, while tees, fairways and greens were also upgraded. Off-course facilities were updated as well, including the pro shop, Grill Room and function spaces.
Pembroke Country Club currently highlights a four-star rating from the New England Golf Guide. The club also describes the Wogan routing as one of the better-known layouts on Massachusetts' South Shore.
Pembroke operates as a public golf course with limited memberships available. It maintains an all-grass full-size driving range, pro shop, Grill Room and banquet facilities. Public tee times are sold through the club's foreUP booking system, with separate walking, riding, nine-hole and twilight rates published for the current season.
