Albert Raymond “Ray” Blank (1887–1963) was a Christchurch-based school headmaster, sportsman, and local leader who also applied his passion for golf to design and develop several club courses in the Canterbury region. Serving as headmaster at Fendalton School from 1922 to 1949, he brought innovative educational ideas while maintaining an active competitive golf life, including presidency of the New Zealand Golf Association.
Beyond education, he dedicated himself to civic service as a county councillor and sports promoter. His designs include the Harewood Club (1923), Waitikiri Golf Club (late 1930s), Waimairi, and Windsor/Bottle Lake.
Blank’s golf architecture favored character-rich parkland settings, strategic dog-legs, varied hole lengths, and challenging greens—bringing both visual charm and thoughtful playability to Christchurch courses.
