Golf Course Architect
Robert Berthet was a French golf course architect and landscape architect who graduated from the Paris School of Architecture and also held certification as a golf teaching professional. In 1978 he founded ARCHIGOLF, delivering design, renovation, and expansion services for around 45 golf courses, along with designing clubhouses and technical buildings, and engaging in urban planning studies.
In 1983 he established the Association Française des Architectes de Golf (AFAG) to promote professionalism in golf course design. He also played a formative role in shaping the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA).
Berthet envisioned golf courses as designed landscapes with thematic sensitivity and as tools for urban renewal, often rehabilitating degraded spaces and integrating thoughtful landscape character into his projects.
