About Golf du Château de Bournel

Golf du Château de Bournel is an 18-hole, par-72 course at Cubry in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. French architect Robert Berthet designed the routing through an English-style estate park surrounding the château complex, using mature trees, changes in elevation and existing water features as principal elements. Published course information gives a back-tee distance of 5,881 metres and a White-tee slope of 135.

The main course is complemented by a three-hole compact course and a practice range with 25 hitting stations, eight of them covered, as well as a putting green. The clubhouse and bar occupy the estate's older eighteenth-century château beside the hotel and restaurant. Secondary French golf sources date the course to 1990; because the current domain's public material is more focused on the estate than detailed golf history, that opening year is retained with slightly lower confidence than the architect and layout information.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 5,881m (6,431 yards), slope rating 135. Designed by Robert Berthet, the course originally opened in 1990. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, 3-Hole Compact Course, Pro Shop, Clubhouse, Bar, Restaurant.

Origins

The golf course was developed within the English-style park surrounding the Bournel château complex and is generally dated to 1990.

Design Philosophy

Robert Berthet used the site's mature trees, cascading water features and natural elevation changes to establish the routing rather than imposing a flat or highly manufactured layout.

Development

Golf facilities expanded beyond the 18-hole course to include a 25-station practice range, eight covered bays, a putting green and a three-hole compact course.

Today

The par-72 course forms part of the Domaine de Bournel, with the golf clubhouse and bar housed in the older eighteenth-century château beside the estate's hotel and restaurant.
