Tom Mackenzie was born in the west of Scotland and spent much of his early golfing life in Dornoch, working as a greenkeeper and caddy. He graduated from Heriot-Watt University in 1989 with a degree in Landscape Architecture and joined Donald Steel shortly after, working as one of Steel's lead designers for around fifteen years before co-founding Mackenzie & Ebert with Martin Ebert in 2005.
