Aboyne Golf Club operates an 18-hole course at Formaston Park in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire. Golf was first played in the village in 1874 and the club was formally founded in 1883. The club moved to its present site in 1905, initially establishing nine holes beside the loch, before Royal Aberdeen professional Archie Simpson assisted with an extension to 18 holes completed in 1908.
Further alterations in 1913 lengthened the course, while Martin Hawtree designed new holes added in 1990. The current men's white course measures 6,003 yards, plays to par 68 and is rated 69.0 with a slope of 117. Other rated combinations include men's yellow and red tees and women's red, yellow and white tees.

Golf arrived in Aboyne in 1874 when local landowners and gentry introduced the game on a nine-hole layout on the village green. Aboyne Golf Club was formally founded in 1883, largely through the efforts of W. E.
Nicol of Ballogie, Dr Keith of Aboyne and the Rev. Dr Drummond of Birse. The first secretary was local stationmaster Mr Forgie, and the club began with 24 members.
The present course developed incrementally rather than from a single original master plan. Nine holes were established beside the loch after the club moved to Formaston Park in 1905. Royal Aberdeen professional Archie Simpson then assisted in expanding the course to 18 holes in 1908.
Alterations in 1913 lengthened the course to 5,010 yards, while Martin Hawtree's work in 1990 introduced new holes to a routing that had otherwise remained substantially unchanged for decades.
The club moved from the village green to its current site in 1905. Its 18-hole extension and a new pavilion were formally celebrated in 1908. James Mearns, owner of the Aboyne Castle estate from 1923 and club president from 1924 until his death in 1943, became a major benefactor and ultimately willed the golf-course land to the people of Aboyne for as long as it remained in use for golf.
Following wartime use for grazing and allotments, the course was reclaimed in 1946. A new clubhouse opened in 1980, and Martin Hawtree-designed holes were added in 1990.
Aboyne remains an 18-hole club at Formaston Park with rated men's and women's tees, visitor tee-time access, seasonal green fees, a clubhouse and professional-shop services.
