Alhaurín Golf is an 18-hole, par-72 course in Alhaurín el Grande on the northern side of the Sierra de Mijas. Severiano Ballesteros designed the course, which opened in the 1990s and is generally dated to 1994. The routing uses pronounced elevation changes across the foothills rather than a flat resort site, producing substantial differences in angle and elevation from hole to hole.
Ballesteros's design incorporates existing terrain, ravines and vegetation as strategic elements. The golf complex also includes practice facilities and a shorter course. Its location between the Sierra de Mijas and the Guadalhorce valley provides a distinctly inland setting compared with many Costa del Sol courses built directly along the coastal strip.
The course is an 18-hole mountain golf course. Designed by Severiano Ballesteros, the course originally opened in 1994. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Practice facilities, Clubhouse, Restaurant.
Alhaurín Golf was developed in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas during the expansion of golf on the Costa del Sol, with Severiano Ballesteros commissioned to design the main course.
Ballesteros used the steep and irregular terrain rather than suppressing it, incorporating ravines, elevation changes and existing vegetation into the strategic demands of the routing.
Alhaurín continues as an 18-hole par-72 public-access course in Alhaurín el Grande.
