Access is restricted to Alisal guests and golf-club members rather than being offered as general public daily-fee golf. The routing was designed around a barranca running through the property, while mature oak, pine, sycamore and eucalyptus trees frame many holes and contribute to the course's relatively tight playing corridors. The Ranch Course has on-site practice areas and a putting green, along with a pro shop, rental clubs, electric carts and hand carts.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 5,989m (6,550 yards). Designed by William Bell Jr, the course originally opened in 1956. It is open to members and their guests. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Putting Green, Practice Area, Golf Lessons, Restaurant, Bar, Club Rental, Golf Cart Rental.
Golf became part of the Alisal property in the 1950s with the creation of the Ranch Course. William Bell Jr. designed the layout, which began play in 1956.
Rather than imposing a geometric routing on the site, the course incorporated a barranca crossing the property and the established stands of oak, pine, sycamore and eucalyptus.
The official description emphasizes the barranca as a fundamental part of Bell's routing and notes the course's tight fairways. The mature trees and natural drainage feature provide much of the structure of the holes rather than relying solely on constructed hazards.
The Ranch Course remained Alisal's sole course until the separate River Course opened in 1992. The two courses subsequently developed different access models, with the Ranch Course retained for Alisal guests and club members.
The Ranch Course remains an 18-hole, 6,550-yard, par-72 layout. Practice areas, a putting green, pro shop, instruction, rental equipment, restaurant and bar support the golf operation.
