”) was a Pasadena‑born golf course architect who carried on and expanded his father’s legacy. After his father’s death in 1953, he continued the family firm (William P.
Bell & Son) and designed or completed more than 200 courses, primarily across the western United States and Hawaii. His career peaked during the 1960s through the early 1980s, and his work is noted for integrating courses naturally into their landscapes while balancing playability with visual harmony.
Among his signature projects are the Torrey Pines North and South courses, which he completed, and numerous regional gems like Bermuda Dunes, Industry Hills, Sandpiper, Mesa Verde, and California Country Club in Whittier.
