About Architects Golf Club

The Architects Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 semi-private course in Lopatcong Township, New Jersey. It opened in 2001 and was conceived by owners Dennis and Larry Turco as a course tracing major architectural ideas from golf's design history. Architect Stephen Kay and Golf Digest architectural editor Ron Whitten developed the concept, while the Turco family executed and completed the project.

Each part of the routing references a different historic design influence rather than attempting to reproduce famous holes directly. The club's current published Black tees measure 6,863 yards and are rated 72.9/134; Gold measures 6,532 yards at 71.5/129, Blue 6,172 at 69.6/127 and Red 5,233 at 70.8/121. The facility includes a grass-tee driving range, putting green, pro shop, instruction, rental clubs, locker rooms and food service.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 71, 6,275m (6,863 yards), course rating 72.9 and slope rating 134. Designed by Ron Whitten and Stephen Kay, the course originally opened in 2001. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. Origins

Brothers Dennis and Larry Turco set out to create a course that would function as a playable history of golf architecture. They partnered with architect Stephen Kay and Golf Digest architectural editor Ron Whitten, and the resulting Architects Golf Club opened in 2001.

Did You Know?
Individual holes are associated with architectural influences including Donald Ross, Stanley Thompson and Robert Trent Jones, without those architects having designed this course.

Design Philosophy

The course draws on design ideas associated with influential architects from the period roughly 1885 to 1955. The concept is interpretive rather than a collection of literal replica holes. Kay and Whitten developed the architectural framework, which was executed with the Turco owners.

Development

A larger clubhouse was completed in 2007, expanding the facility's capacity for events and outings. More recent work has included bunker renovations, including changes at the 18th hole.

Today

Architects operates as an 18-hole semi-private course with public play, memberships, practice facilities and a clubhouse.
