Golf Course Architect
Stephen Kay is a licensed landscape architect who has focused on golf course architecture since 1983. A member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects since 1995, he has designed or renovated over 300 courses, often restoring work by Golden Age masters like Ross, Tillinghast, Emmet, Banks and Travis.
He teaches turfgrass management and golf design at Rutgers University and co-leads Stephen Kay Golf Course Architect, LLC (formerly with partner Doug Smith). His work includes the design of Old Bridge Golf Course at the Rose in Matawan (opened 2023) and renovation of Hendricks Field Golf Course in Belleville in 2021.
