Ardglass Golf Club occupies a cliff-top links on the County Down coast, with the Irish Sea visible from all 18 tees and greens. The club traces its golf history to 1896, when Rev. Thomas MacAfee led the creation of a seven-hole layout measuring less than 1,000 yards in the area now occupied by the first and eighteenth fairways.
It became a nine-hole course in 1907 and remained essentially in that form for around six decades. Additional land allowed an 18-hole course to emerge in the late 1960s, followed by further acquisition and remodelling around Coney Island Bay. The club states that the sea comes into play on eight holes.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. The course originally opened in 1896. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro shop, Golf instruction, Restaurant, Bar, Clubhouse, Junior Membership, Life Membership, Restricted Membership.
Golf at Ardglass began in 1896 under Rev. Thomas MacAfee. The original seven-hole course measured less than 1,000 yards and occupied land around what are now the first and eighteenth fairways.
The course became nine holes in 1907 and remained broadly unchanged for roughly 60 years. Additional land acquired by the club enabled the first 18-hole configuration in the late 1960s. Another later land acquisition around Coney Island Bay led to further remodelling and the modern links.
The present course is an 18-hole coastal links. The club continues to remodel and upgrade the layout while also maintaining its exceptionally old clubhouse.
