About Balcarrick Golf Club

Balcarrick Golf Club at Donabate traces its organisation to a group of 'Homeless Golfers' who began meeting in 1968. They formed Dublin & County Golf Club after Dublin County Council opened the public Corballis course in 1972. As membership increased, the club secured land for a permanent course and adopted the Balcarrick name in 1992, when its first nine holes opened.

Designer Barry Langan guided the expansion to 18 holes by 1995. A major €1.5 million redevelopment began in 2006 under architect Roger Jones and was officially opened on 28 June 2008. The redesign reshaped fairways, repositioned bunkers, improved drainage and irrigation and created new tees and greens.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Designed by Barry Langan, the course originally opened in 1992. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Putting Green, Practice Facilities, Restaurant, Bar.

Origins

The story began in 1968 when a group calling themselves the Homeless Golfers met at Dublin's Waldorf Astoria Hotel to pursue more accessible golf. When Dublin County Council opened a public course at Corballis in 1972, the group established Dublin & County Golf Club.

Did You Know?
The organisation became Ireland's first Golfing Union of Ireland-affiliated club that did not own its own course.

Development

The club adopted the Balcarrick name in 1992 after acquiring access to land for its own course. Nine holes opened that year and Barry Langan guided expansion to 18 holes by 1995. A clubhouse followed in 1997.

Members purchased the land required for the second nine in 1999. Roger Jones then led a €1.5 million redesign beginning in 2006, officially reopened on 28 June 2008.

Recognition

The 2008 redevelopment was selected as one of five worldwide finalists in Golf Inc.'s Renovation of the Year competition.

Today

Balcarrick operates an 18-hole course beside the Malahide Estuary, with extensive water features, member golf, visitor tee times and society bookings.
