The PGA Baobab Course is the 18-hole, par-72 championship course at Vipingo Ridge on Kenya's coast. Vipingo Ridge gives its current length as 6,586 yards and credits former Kenya Open winner and golf-course architect David Jones with the design. Jones began work on the project in 2006 and records the course as opening in 2010.
His brief was to transform a former 2,500-acre sisal estate into an international golf estate, using water pumped to the high point of the property to create a gravity-fed system of streams, cascades and ponds through the course. Vipingo Ridge says the course became PGA-approved through a partnership with the PGA in 2016/2017, making it the only PGA-accredited course in Africa. It has hosted the Magical Kenya Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,022m (6,586 yards). Designed by David Jones, the course originally opened in 2010. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, Putting greens, Practice bunkers, Pro shop, Rental clubs, Clubhouse, Golf Academy, Restaurant, and 4 more.
Vipingo Ridge began with a former 2,500-acre sisal estate on the Kenyan coast. Architect David Jones was commissioned to turn the property into an international golf estate and began the golf project in 2006.
Jones has described the site's original large freshwater lake as the catalyst for the course's water system. Water was moved to the property's high point and allowed to descend through streams, waterfalls and ponds, creating both strategic golf features and habitat. His broader approach emphasised the existing landscape and strategic playability.
The course opened in 2010. Vipingo Ridge formed a partnership with the PGA in 2016, and the Baobab Course subsequently received PGA Approved status. In 2020 the wider estate also became a sanctuary for wildlife through a programme involving Kenya Wildlife Service.
Vipingo Ridge promotes the Baobab as Africa's only PGA-accredited golf course. David Jones records that it was voted Kenya's No. 1 course in 2015.
The course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout measuring 6,586 yards. It is supported by three putting greens, a 300-metre driving range, practice bunkers, a pro shop, club hire and a PGA Golf Academy.
