Buenaventura Golf Club at Río Hato in Coclé is an 18-hole Nicklaus Design course that opened in 2012. Nicklaus Design lists the back-tee length at 7,324 yards and classifies the facility as private/resort. It was the first Nicklaus Design golf course in Panama.
The course uses Platinum Paspalum turf and incorporates extensive waste-bunker areas; Buenaventura states that more than 300 trees were transplanted during development. Practice facilities include a driving range, short-game area, chipping area and putting green, while the clubhouse operation includes a pro shop, restaurant and locker rooms. The club has hosted national and international competition, including PGA TOUR Latinoamérica events.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. Designed by Nicklaus Design, the course originally opened in 2012. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Driving range, Putting green, Chipping area, Short-game area, Pro shop, Restaurant, Locker room.
Buenaventura's golf course was developed as part of the larger Pacific-coast resort community and became Nicklaus Design's first completed project in Panama.
Multiple teeing grounds were incorporated to make the 7,324-yard back-tee course adaptable to different abilities. Platinum Paspalum was selected for the playing surfaces, and waste bunkering is a prominent design element.
The original course opened in 2012. Buenaventura has subsequently announced a second, shorter golf course to be designed by Robert Trent Jones II.
The Nicklaus course remains the established 18-hole course at Buenaventura, supported by extensive practice and clubhouse facilities.
