Burley Golf Club is a historic New Forest heathland course established in 1905. The physical course has nine greens, but separate tee positions provide an 18-hole playing sequence in which the second circuit differs from the first. The men's 18-hole course measures 6,151 yards and plays to par 71; the women's course measures 5,347 yards and plays to par 70.
The layout was originally set out and built by local men on Forestry land and has remained broadly similar for more than a century. Visitors are welcomed. The course's sandy heathland setting gives it strong natural drainage and the club reports that it remains playable through much of the year.
The course is a 9-hole heathland golf course. It plays to par 71, 5,624m (6,151 yards). The course originally opened in 1905. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Restaurant, Bar, Golf Lessons.
Burley emerged during the early-20th-century expansion of golf in southern England. Local businessmen formed the club in 1905, and local men laid out and constructed the course on Forestry land in the New Forest.
The course was requisitioned by the Army during the Second World War, with the clubhouse used as a billet. Several holes were repositioned in 1954. The architecture firm C.
K. Cotton subsequently assessed a proposal to expand Burley to 18 separate holes, but the estimated cost meant the plan was not taken forward.
Burley retains its distinctive nine-green format with different tees for the first and second circuits, producing a full 18-hole round.
