Came Down Golf Club near Dorchester traces its origins to 1896, when it was founded as Dorchester Golf Club. Tom Dunn designed the original nine-hole course. H.
Taylor subsequently redesigned and expanded the layout during 1904-1906, producing an 18-hole course that was formally opened on 15 May 1906 with an exhibition match between Taylor and James Braid. Harry Colt was then engaged in 1927 and made the alterations that most strongly shaped the modern routing. The course occupies exposed downland and remains an 18-hole club with visitor access.

H. Taylor expanded and redesigned the course between 1904 and 1906. Harry Colt then made another major intervention in 1927, using the existing downland contours, pits and tumuli to create strategic decisions.
The club cites the par-3 12th, set into a hillside and defended by natural slope and bunkering, as a characteristic Colt hole.
Taylor's 18-hole course opened on 15 May 1906, marked by an exhibition match against James Braid. Colt's 1927 work subsequently became the principal architectural foundation of the modern course and has remained largely intact.
Came Down remains an 18-hole club near Dorchester with visitor tee times and membership, preserving substantial elements of Colt's 1927 alterations.
