Capel Golf Club is an 18-hole course at Stratham in Western Australia's South West. The club itself dates to 1928, when local residents established a temporary nine-hole course at Tren Creek before moving to the Old Capel Racecourse. Persistent winter waterlogging eventually prompted another move, and the club purchased its present Stratham property in the late 1950s.
Golf architect Murray Dawson designed the front nine for a recorded fee of £5 5s. The new nine-hole course officially opened on 19 September 1964, with the full 18 holes in play by 1966. Current published course data lists the layout at approximately 6,002 yards and par 72.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 5,488m (6,002 yards). Designed by Murray Dawson, the course originally opened in 1964. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Practice Bunker, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Club Fitting, Club Hire, and 3 more.
Capel Golf Club was formed after a public meeting on 13 April 1928. R. Scott made Tren Creek available for a temporary nine, where the first official game was played on 3 June 1928.
The racecourse course opened in 1931 but suffered badly from winter waterlogging.
For the move to Stratham, Murray Dawson was engaged to design the front nine of the new course.
The club bought its current Stratham property from the Dunkley Brothers in the late 1950s for £1,500. The new nine opened on 19 September 1964 and the full 18 was operating by 1966. Reticulation and grass greens followed as members continued improving the property.
The Capel Open honour board includes Australian professionals Terry Gale, Graham Marsh, Stephen Leaney and Greg Chalmers.
Capel operates an 18-hole course with extensive practice facilities and accepts green-fee players.
