Carrington Estate Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-72 resort course on the Karikari Peninsula in Northland. The current official site lists the course at 6,417 metres and 7,267 yards and credits American architect Matt Dye with its design. The present layout opened in December 2003 after Dye extensively rebuilt the earlier golf course; Carrington was his first solo course project.
The course occupies rolling ground beside wetlands and the Northland coast, but reputable golf coverage describes its playing character as more inland parkland than true links. Public green fees are available to international, non-affiliated and New Zealand-affiliated players, with separate nine-hole and replay rates. The wider estate includes lodge and villa accommodation, restaurants, a bar, swimming pool, tennis court, gym and pro shop.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,417m (7,267 yards). Designed by Matt Dye, the course originally opened in 2003. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Golf Cart Rental, Trundler Rental, Restaurant, Bar, Lodge, Villa, Swimming Pool, and 2 more.
The present Carrington course emerged from a major redevelopment of an earlier golf layout on the Karikari Peninsula. American investor Paul Kelly engaged Matt Dye in 2002 to rebuild the course. The completed 18-hole layout was inaugurated on 15 December 2003.
Although close to the ocean, the routing was shaped more like an inland parkland course, using rolling ground, valleys and naturally occurring water features. Dye worked with the site's existing contours and retained broad conservation areas around the golf corridors.
The golf course became the sporting centrepiece of a larger estate incorporating accommodation, a vineyard and agricultural land. Paul Kelly later sold the wider resort in the following decade, while the golf layout remained in operation.
Carrington has appeared regularly in New Zealand course rankings and national golf-travel coverage, with particular attention paid to Matt Dye's routing and the scale of the Northland property.
Carrington remains an 18-hole resort course open to visiting golfers as well as members, with accommodation, restaurants and other resort amenities on the property.
