About Castle Dargan Estate

Castle Dargan's golf course occupies part of a 170-acre estate near Sligo and was designed by Darren Clarke. It is an 18-hole parkland course routed through the estate's mature landscape, incorporating lakes, burns, old stone walls and the ruins associated with Castle Dargan. Those ruins remain beside the third hole.

The estate itself opened to guests in August 2006 after restoration work centred on the eighteenth-century Castle Dargan House. Golf is available to members, hotel residents and outside visitors rather than being restricted to resort guests. Current facilities published by the estate include an eight-bay driving range, with four covered and four outdoor bays, a USGA-specification putting green and a short-game practice area.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Designed by Darren Clarke, the course originally opened in 2006. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Apartment, Suite, Driving range, Putting green, Short-game practice area, Buggy hire, Electric trolley hire, Pull trolley hire, and 4 more.

Origins

The modern Castle Dargan Estate project restored an old Sligo estate whose surviving house dates from the eighteenth century. The estate opened its doors in August 2006, with an 18-hole golf course designed by Darren Clarke forming one of its principal facilities.

Design Philosophy

The estate describes Clarke's routing as following the natural rise and fall of the land, threading holes among mature trees, lakes, burns, old stone walls and historic ruins rather than treating the golf course as a separate feature from the estate landscape.

Today

The course remains attached to Castle Dargan Estate but is open to members, residents and visitors. Practice facilities include an eight-bay range, putting green and short-game area.
