About Castle Stuart Golf Links

Castle Stuart is an 18-hole modern links at Cabot Highlands beside the Moray Firth near Inverness. The course was created by developer and designer Mark Parsinen with architect Gil Hanse and launched in 2009. Its routing uses coastal bluffs, rumpled ground and broad fairways, with several greens positioned close to or visually above the shoreline.

Cabot describes the design as drawing on early-20th-century Scottish links aesthetics while providing generous playing corridors and multiple strategic angles. The Moray Firth remains visible through much of the round, and the course's contours are deliberately used to feed running shots toward greens. Castle Stuart became part of the Cabot portfolio when the Highlands property joined the company in 2022.

The course is an 18-hole links golf course. Designed by Gil Hanse and Mark Parsinen, the course originally opened in 2009. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Pro Shop, Practice Facilities.

Origins

American developer Mark Parsinen conceived Castle Stuart as a modern Scottish links on the Moray Firth. Working with Gil Hanse, he developed the course around the site's coastal bluffs and natural landforms, launching it in 2009.

Castle Stuart inspired Cabot co-founder Ben Cowan-Dewar while he was creating Cabot Links in Nova Scotia.

Design Philosophy

Parsinen and Hanse sought a modern course with the visual and strategic qualities of older Scottish links. Broad fairways allow golfers to select angles, while rumpled terrain, coastal contours and greens that appear to sit against the edge of the firth encourage ground play and strategic positioning.

Development

Parsinen intended Castle Stuart to become part of a larger golf destination and hoped eventually to add a second course. He died in 2019 before that plan was realised. Cabot acquired the property in 2022 and subsequently developed Old Petty, designed by Tom Doak.

Today

Castle Stuart is now one of the courses at Cabot Highlands, alongside the newer Old Petty layout.
