Centurion Club is a private 18-hole golf club near St Albans in Hertfordshire, opened in 2013 on a 90-acre site acquired three years earlier. The course was designed by Simon Gidman, with construction support from Southern Golf and agronomy guidance from Troon Golf. From the Black tees the present course measures 7,084 yards and plays to par 72, with a course rating of 75.2 and slope rating of 147.
Five principal tee colours range down to the 5,507-yard Cerise tees. The routing begins through established pine woodland before moving into more open, heavily shaped terrain. Approximately 80 bunkers, four significant water features, elevated teeing grounds and undulating bentgrass greens form the principal hazards, while indigenous fescue grasses are used in carries and rough areas.

Centurion was conceived as a new private golf club rather than an adaptation of an existing course. Former professional golfer Scott Evans spent an extended period searching for a suitable property before purchasing the 90-acre Hertfordshire site in 2010. The ownership group comprised Evans, Graham Wildish and Dutch businessmen Bert Pronk and André Hendriks.
Evans worked with British architect Simon Gidman on the routing, while Southern Golf supported course construction and Troon Golf supplied agronomic guidance. Development proceeded rapidly: the land was acquired in 2010 and the completed course officially opened for play on 1 July 2013.
Gidman's intention was to give the holes individual identities rather than repeat a single visual formula across the property. The opening section makes use of existing pine woodland, while later holes occupy more heavily shaped open ground. Construction using inert fill allowed substantial contouring, including elevated tees and pronounced movement around greens and fairways.
Approximately 80 bunkers and four major water features were incorporated, while indigenous fescue grasses were established through carries and rough areas. Troon's agronomy team upgraded drainage and installed a Toro irrigation system during development. Greens were established with A1 creeping bentgrass, with fescue and ryegrass used across fairways to improve durability and year-round performance.
The golf course preceded the permanent clubhouse. Centurion welcomed its first members in 2013, while the main clubhouse opened in 2016 with a pro shop, members' lounge, locker rooms and restaurant. Galvin brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin oversaw the restaurant launch, and dining was also opened to non-members.
Practice provision developed into a substantial complex with a driving range, two putting greens, chipping green and a dedicated pitching area. Membership structures have continued to evolve, including the introduction in 2024 of a limited Senate Share and Lifetime Membership category.
Centurion quickly became known as a professional tournament venue. It hosted the European Tour's inaugural GolfSixes competition in 2017 and again in 2018. From 2021 it became the London venue for the Ladies European Tour's Aramco Team Series, subsequently renamed the PIF Championship, with the club confirming editions through 2026.
In 2022 Centurion was chosen to stage the first event in the LIV Golf Invitational Series; the circuit returned in 2023. These tournaments brought fields including major champions and leading players from both men's and women's professional golf.
Centurion remains a private members' club, with ordinary golf access centred on members and their accompanied guests rather than public tee times. The course has five principal tee colours and current WHS ratings extending from the 7,084-yard Black course to the 5,507-yard Cerise course. Members have access to the golf course, practice complex, PGA coaching, clubhouse and private dining and social areas.
The restaurant itself is open to non-members, but this does not make the golf course publicly bookable.
