Golf Course Architect
Simon Gidman is a British golf course architect whose career began as a golf professional at Gerrards Cross before studying landscape architecture at Leeds Metropolitan University. He joined Hawtree’s in 1983 and in 1991 founded his own practice, Simon Gidman Golf Architects (also known as Simon Gidman International Golf Course Architects).
He has since designed and renovated numerous parkland courses across the UK and Europe, combining ecological sensitivity with thoughtful routing and aesthetic character. His works include original designs like Studley Wood Golf Club (1995), the Blue Course at Frilford Heath (1994), Centurion Club, Galgorm Castle, and renovations or consultancy on several well-known clubs.
Gidman has held leadership roles in professional institutions, including serving as President of the EIGCA and Vice President of BIGCA, and has lectured to industry groups on subjects ranging from turf management to safety margins.
