The Craigtoun Course is St Andrews Links Trust's inland 18-hole course at Craigtoun Park. It opened in 1995 as The Duke's Course, originally designed by five-time Open champion Peter Thomson with Ross Perrett. Tim Liddy completed a major redesign in 2006 that added five new holes, rebuilt three green complexes, renovated more than 100 bunkers and lengthened the course.
St Andrews Links Trust took over the long-term lease on 5 January 2026 and renamed it the Craigtoun Course. The current back Black markers extend to 7,512 yards and the course plays to par 71. Published rated tee sets extend through Blue, White, Green and forward markers.
The course is an 18-hole heathland golf course. It plays to par 71, 7,512 yards. Designed by Peter Thomson and Ross Perrett, the course originally opened in 1995. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro shop, Golf buggy hire, Club hire, Clubhouse, Driving Range, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Club Fitting, and 6 more.
The course was created on high ground at Craigtoun Park as an inland complement to St Andrews' coastal golf. Peter Thomson and Ross Perrett designed the original layout, which opened in 1995 under the name The Duke's Course.
The original routing used the elevated, naturally rolling ground above St Andrews. Tim Liddy's 2006 work moved the design further toward a heathland character, with extensive bunker reconstruction, new holes and revised green complexes integrated into the existing contours.
A major 2006 project led by Tim Liddy created five new holes, three new green complexes, renovated more than 100 bunkers and added significant length. St Andrews Links Trust then agreed a long-term lease of the course and assumed management on 5 January 2026, renaming it the Craigtoun Course.
The course has hosted significant amateur championships and is currently ranked among the stronger courses in Scotland by major golf publications.
Craigtoun is now the eighth course managed by St Andrews Links Trust and provides a distinctly inland alternative to the Trust's traditional seaside links.
