Duddingston Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course on the eastern side of Edinburgh below Arthur's Seat. The club originated in 1895 as the Insurance & Banking Golf Club after Edinburgh's insurance and banking communities obtained land from the Abercorn estate. Two-time Open champion Willie Park Jr.
was engaged to lay out the course. The current white course measures 6,525 yards and plays to par 72. Duddingston's official history records later extensions by John Shade and Bill Biggar during the 1960s and 1970s.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,525 yards. Designed by Willie Park, Jr, the course originally opened in 1895. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Clubhouse, Restaurant, Bar, Golf Simulator.
Edinburgh's insurance companies had competed for the Edinburgh Insurance Trophy before joining with the banking community to secure their own course. In 1895 land was leased from the Duke of Abercorn's estate at Duddingston and Willie Park Jr. was engaged to design it.
John Shade and Bill Biggar extended the course during the 1960s and 1970s. A later new tee at the 12th contributed to the current 6,525-yard white layout.
Duddingston remains a parkland members' club only a few miles from central Edinburgh.
