Origins

Eagle Valley was developed as a public golf facility for the growing City of Woodbury during a period of rapid expansion in the eastern Twin Cities suburbs. The course opened in 1998 and has remained a municipal facility associated with the City of Woodbury. Minnesota golf architect Joel Goldstrand and David Kirscht are consistently credited with the design.

Goldstrand had moved into full-time golf-course architecture in 1989 after a long career as a golf professional and went on to design or contribute to numerous courses across Minnesota and neighbouring states.

Did You Know?
Eagle Valley's practice putting and short-game green covers more than 15,000 square feet and contains nine practice hole locations.

Design Philosophy

No detailed first-person design statement from Goldstrand or Kirscht concerning Eagle Valley was located. The completed course was built as a full-length par-72 public layout with six current tee configurations ranging from 5,105 to 6,910 yards. The routing incorporates changes in elevation, water and bunkering while offering enough tee variation to adjust the challenge for different golfers.

The present Black course is rated 73.1 with a slope of 131, while the forward Red setup measures 5,105 yards.

Development

Since opening in 1998, Eagle Valley has developed beyond the 18-hole course into a broader municipal golf facility. Its practice area now includes a 60-station bentgrass range, a practice bunker and a putting and short-game green of more than 15,000 square feet. The clubhouse has also been updated over time; City of Woodbury records document renovation work to support golf, food-and-beverage and event operations.

The club has expanded programming to include season passes, the Eagle Club discount program, men's and women's golf, couples golf, junior leagues, First Tee programming and adult instruction.

Recognition

Explore Minnesota has promoted Eagle Valley as a public Woodbury golf facility since its 1998 opening. City promotional material has also cited recognition from Golf Advisor, including placement among Minnesota's top courses. Independent course rankings and directories continue to identify Eagle Valley as one of the better-known municipal golf facilities in the eastern Twin Cities.

Today

Eagle Valley remains an 18-hole public municipal course operated in association with the City of Woodbury. The club publishes daily walking and riding rates, twilight pricing and reduced Champions rates for golfers aged 50 and over. General public tee times can be reserved five days in advance, while Eagle Club members and season-pass holders receive a seven-day window.

Alongside daily play, the facility supports leagues, junior development, golf instruction, group outings and clubhouse events.
